Seid gegrüßt Magic-Community,
heute kommt der erste Teil der Interviewreihe für das Format Legacy. Stefan Gussenhoven aus den Niederlanden stellt sich unseren Fragen. Dieses Mal ist das Interview auf Englisch. Enjoy!
- Please introduce yourself briefly.
Hi, im Stefan from the Netherlands. Playing Magic since around 4th Edition/Ice Age.
Love playing any constructed format. Mainly playing competitive events with preference for Legacy & Pauper.
- What are your current thoughts on the Legacy format?
Currently I think Legacy is a flourishing, diverse and healthy format. With a very good atmosphere of players at any tournament.
The variance in decks, available cardpool, playstyle and interaction makes it the most interesting format for me.
For new players it might be hard to step in but like most communities, Legacy has many players who can borrow cards to start up.
- What do you think about the impact of Commander cards on Legacy?
On the other hand, being an eternal format, Legacy includes Commander product. This product is not “always” well thought about. Having all these cards being added from all sets does impact Legacy. This can potentially ruin the format or influence a meta for some time. Yet it does give a nice twist to a format with all cards being legal.
- What are your predictions for top decks, top cards, or “players to watch” at the Lotus Vale Series VI?
For the current meta, I think there is no clear best deck. And there will be a variety of decks in top 8’s. There are stronger decks and deck who prey on the meta decks. And all decks in between who can still perform in this meta. But there is one card that is getting dominant in multiple strategies:
With the latest addition, the Fantasticar (legal at the moment of writing), one of the strongest deck is currently Doomsday. With a main and backup plan which compliment each other. This makes it solid and reliable to win with.
Also a deck to not underestimate is Reanimator, taking game 1 easy and then going for the swap to Show and Tell. Hard to interact with, as it has it disruption and though treats.
Furthermore, underdogs to watch for, Cloudpost/Tron and Hogaak style decks.
- What has been your experience with the LotusVale Series so far?
I like to travel for bigger events and the LotusVale Series is one of them. LotusVale tournaments are very well organized, prize support is clear and fair, their locations are very good to play at and the site even has a bar! Staff is always professional and friendly.
And due to the above it attracts a lot of (good) players which makes it even more interesting to play a tournament at LotusVale.
- Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Nothing to add at this stage.
Wir bedanken uns bei Stefan für das Interview und wünschen alles Gute und ganz viel Erfolg bei den kommenden Turnieren!
Morgen kommt das zweite Legacy-Interview mit Niklas Holtmann.
