heute kommt der dritte Teil der Interviewreihe für das Format Legacy. Tom De Decker aus Belgien stellt sich unseren Fragen. Dieses Mal ist das Interview auf Englisch. Enjoy!
- Please introduce yourself briefly.
I’m Tom De Decker, Legacy player and community builder from Belgium. I’m 40 years old and have been playing Magic for 27 years. Traveling to events to meet people from different communities and play this amazing game together is my passion. Since 2022, I’ve been the chair of the European Legacy Masters. Besides Legacy, I also enjoy Vintage, and even enjoyed some moderate tournament success in that format in the past (4x MKM Series Top8, 4x 4Seasons Top8).
- What are your current thoughts on the Legacy format?
With Fantasticar gone, I think the format is quite fun and diverse, with plenty of room to brew as long as you respect the format’s power level and overall dynamics.
- What do you think about the impact of Commander cards on Legacy?
I wish they would print less cards overall because I have trouble keeping up and there is barely any time to explore stuff, before another new set rolls around.
Commander cards by themselves aren’t a bad thing, except when they introduce mechanics that are unbalanced in 1v1 play. The Initiative being the prime offender there, of course.
- What are your predictions for top decks, top cards, or “players to watch” at the Lotus Vale Series VI?
It will be interesting to see what people do with Bilbo. Deck-wise, I think the Welder-Cam deck is very strong and a good candidate to win any event.
As far as players go, I gotta shout out my boy Niklas Holtmann, who’s always playing his own brews and crushing with them.
- What has been your experience with the Lotus Vale Series so far?
The event is always a good time. Well ran, with a good vibes, in a cool venue with excellent catering options.
My only concern is that I haven’t been able to win any prizes yet – maybe I can get lucky this time?
